This ongoing project explores a unique German tradition where men transform into "Wild Men" during carnival and Pentecost by dressing in leaves, straw, and twigs. Rooted in European folklore, these costumes embody both the fierce and fragile aspects of nature, allowing men to temporarily adopt the raw identity of the primal Wild or Green Man, a creature of superhuman strength and wildness.
The process of dressing up not only reshapes their gestures but creates a rare closeness, as men work together to construct these elaborate disguises. This ritual highlights a deep-rooted longing for a return to nature, as well as a reverence for its beauty and violence—an idea that resonates today amid growing ecological concerns. Through this revival of mythology, the project examines how modern masculinity and our connection to the natural world are reimagined in ways both inspiring and cautionary.
